On May 18, 2024, Lake Quinault School District students triumphed at the ROV competition held in Forks, Washington. One team, the Turtle Frogs, which includes Kole Calloway, Ethan Butler, and Adam Sansom secured first place and the second team, the Coral Buddies, which consists of Leo Valera and Brennan Lozier, secured third place. This event showcased the impressive skills and dedication of the students involved in the Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) program, which Mr. Kenney, a committed educator at Lake Quinault School, oversees. The ROV program, now in its 7th year, continues to provide students with hands-on experience in underwater robotics, teaching them valuable engineering and problem-solving skills and how to work well in a team environment. These are all valuable 21st-century skills that will help to prepare them for success after high school.
The achievement highlights not only the students' hard work but also the effective mentorship and guidance provided by Mr. Kenney, contributing significantly to their victory. These wins added to the school district's reputation for fostering educational excellence and innovative programs despite being a small and remote community.
