During the week of September 23-26, a group of 8th-graders from Lakeside School in Seattle embarked on their annual trip to Lake Quinault, continuing a long-standing tradition of fostering community and learning. This year marked the 8th year of the partnership between Lakeside School and the Lake Quinault 8th graders, bringing together students for a week of exploration, education, and service.
Throughout the week, students from both schools were given a tour of the Lake Quinault community, gaining insight into the area's rich history and natural beauty. Highlights included visits to the Lake Quinault Museum, where students learned about the local culture and history, as well as the Cook Creek Fish Hatchery, which provided a hands-on educational experience about fish conservation. The students also enjoyed a trip to the breathtaking Ruby Beach, one of the Pacific Northwest's most iconic coastal destinations.
The week culminated in two days of service learning, during which students worked together on hiking trail maintenance along the South Shore. This hands-on project allowed students to contribute to the local environment and enhance the accessibility of the trails for future visitors.
This trip has become a cherished tradition, promoting learning, community service, and environmental stewardship, while strengthening the bond between the two schools. Both students and teachers look forward to continuing this valuable partnership for years to come.
